SENATOBIA - For the first time since the spring of 2021, the Northwest Mississippi Community College women's soccer team (7-2, 2-2) suffer their second straight defeat with a 2-0 loss to #4 Holmes Community College (9-0, 4-0) at the Ranger Soccer Complex. 

After losing to #2 Jones College on Tuesday, the Rangers were looking to gain positive momentum in yet another ranked MACCC clash. However, the Bulldogs quickly established themselves on the front foot offensively.  

After threatening the Northwest defense several times in the first couple of minutes of the game, Holmes was able to net their first goal in the sixth minute when forward Kayla Jones sent a deflected shot into the back of the net. 

Due to a Lena Scholze injury, the Ranger backline saw several different players rotate throughout the 90 minutes. The backline held strong until Bella Jordan was able to slot home the ball from a sharp angle on the right side in the 66th minute, giving the Bulldogs the 2-0 lead.  

The typically offensively minded Rangers were forced to play defense for the majority of the game and only recorded nine shots as opposed to Holmes' 31 total shots. HCC also garnered significantly more corner kicks than NWCC with 12 to the Rangers' two.  

More than doubling her season's save total with nine saves against the Bulldogs, freshman goalkeeper Lydia Knabb proved to be a bright spot for Northwest in an otherwise frustrating game. 

A week from today, on Friday, October, the Rangers will travel to #6 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (8-0-1, 4-0) to face off in a 4 p.m. contest at the MGCCC Soccer Complex.
