SENATOBIA - Northwest finished with its best season in program history last fall, compiling a 15-2-3 overall record and earning a trip to the NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship.
Now, four key players from that team will continue their careers with NCAA programs, including three in the Division I ranks. Midfielder
Jennifer Enriquez and defender
Malaesha Liddell will reunite at UT Martin this fall, while midfielder
Melinda Hernandez will join Little Rock and fellow midfielder
Hadleigh Watson has signed with Belhaven University.
Enriquez finished her two-year stint as one of the Lady Rangers' most electric players. The Las Cruces, N.M. native shattered the program's single-season and career assists records, finishing with 30 for her career, while also finishing sixth all-time with 23 career goals.
Enriquez earned numerous awards and accolades during her time at Northwest, finishing as a two-time United Soccer Coaches' All-American. She also received NJCAA All-American recognition following last season's run through the national tournament, while also being named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team and twice earning First Team All-MACCC honors.
Though snubbed of any postseason awards during her two seasons in Senatobia, Liddell was a driving force on the Lady Rangers' defense. The Horn Lake native anchored a back unit that went from allowing 29 goals in 2021 to just nine in 2022, while also finishing with 12 shutouts in 20 total matches.
Hernandez departs Northwest as a two-time All-MACCC selection, garnering first team accolades as a freshman and Honorable Mention recognition in 2022. The Bryant, Ark. product scored 12 goals and added 13 assists throughout her career, but her most memorable moment came in the national tournament, where she scored both goals in a 2-1 double overtime upset of Pima (Ariz.), helping the Lady Rangers win Pool D and advance to the NJCAA semifinals.
After transferring from Austin Peay ahead of last season, Watson filled a vital role in the Lady Rangers' midfield, scoring three goals in 18 matches played. The Olive Branch native provided the game-winning goal in a 3-0 shutout of Meridian on October 18 and finished her lone season with a .640 shot-on-goal percentage.
Since Beattie took over the coaching reins prior to the COVID-19 delayed spring 2021 season, Northwest has sent 10 players to the four-year level, including
Molly Rose (Georgia State) in 2021. He has also guided the Lady Rangers to the postseason in all three seasons, with his coaching staff earning awards from the
MACCC and
United Soccer Coaches organization.
Currently, Beattie holds a career record of 36-11-4 and he is within six wins of surpassing Levi Nunnally for the title of second-winningest coach.
