SCOOBA - The Northwest Mississippi Community College women's soccer team (13-3, 8-3) closed out their regular season with a 9-1 victory over East Mississippi Community College (3-13-1, 1-10) at Sullivan-Windham Field.
Dominating from the second the referee's whistle blew, the Rangers first got on the scoreboard when sophomore Maggie Pace sent McKenzi Rankins' cross into the back of the net in just the third minute.
Just two minutes later in the fifth minute, Pace completed her brace after she slotted sophomore midfielder Joline Knevel's pass into the back of the net.
NWCC did not slow down, and freshman forward Yazzlyn Alex scored her first goal of the day after a pass from Rankins in the eighth minute, and just two minutes later, in the 10th minute, Alex became the second Ranger to record a brace after a pass from freshman midfielder Sunshine Little.
Little became the second Ranger to record multiple assists when sophomore Olivia Miller slotted home her pass in the 15th minute.
Sophomore substitute Mary Logan Clark scored the fifth and final goal of the first half off of a Ella King pass in the 42nd minute.
The scoring once again got off to a quick start in the second half.
Alex completed her hattrick with a one touch finish after a Anna Rethmeier pass in the 51st minute, and once again, just two minutes later, Alex followed it up with another finish from around 12 yards away from the keeper.
Alex leads the team with 18 goals and 42 points.
The one low point for Northwest was a red card issued to sophomore Clark. After a hard challenge in the 58th minute, Clark was shown the red card and immediately ejected from the game.
As a result of being down a player due to the red card, NWCC allowed EMCC to score shortly after.
However, the Rangers were quickly able to regain an eight goal advantage when freshman midfielder Hayden Moneymaker sent Mel Holt's pass into the back of the net from around 16 yards away from the goal line.
Northwest dominated in every facet of the game. The team outshot East 46-2, did not allow the Eagles to take a single corner kick, and only relied on their goalie to make a save three times.
This win marks the fifth victory in a row for the Rangers.
NWCC will begin their postseason journey when they welcome Meridian Community College (8-8-2, 5-6) to Senatobia on Friday, October 30 at 5:00 p.m. for the quarterfinals of the Region 23 Tournament.
