SENATOBIA - An early goal by
Miller Thorsen was countered by four straight scores from East Central on Friday afternoon, as Northwest dropped a 4-1 loss to the Warriors.
Thorsen's goal came in the ninth minute of the match, as
J.T. Reesor provided the assist. At the time, the goal helped the Rangers gain some momentum on East Central, which had started the match aggressive on the offensive side of the ball.
However, the Warriors eventually responded in the 26th minute, as Obed Medina connected with Kai Suchet-Pearson for the equalizer. Just a couple minutes later, East Central went up 2-1, thanks to a score by Anthony Cruz.
Northwest kept the Warriors off the board for the remainder of the first half, staying in striking distance. That all changed just minutes into the second half though, as Lisakhanya Nogcinisa scored in the 50th minute, stretching the deficit to 3-1.
In the 71st minute, East Central provided the dagger on a goal by Graham Lewis. The Rangers were simply unable to respond offensively over the entirety of the second half, as the Warriors picked up the pivotal conference victory.
East Central outpaced Northwest 20-5 in total shots, with nine of those coming on goal for the Warriors. However, the most noticeable stat came in the foul column, as both teams combined for nearly 30 fouls.
A total of nine cautions were issued, including four for the Rangers. Reesor and
Gunner Pitt picked up yellow cards in the first half, as
Soren Voges-Haupt collected his fourth yellow card of the season in the 56th minute and
Junior Sandoval was also hit with one in the 58th minute.
Five cautions were issued to East Central, with three of those occurring over the final 10 minutes of regulation.
With the loss, Northwest falls to 4-8 overall and 4-4 in the MACCC. East Central moved to 3-8-1 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.
Northwest will now turn its attention to Tuesday, October 17, as the Rangers travel to Wesson for a road tilt against Copiah-Lincoln. The Wolves (3-5-5, 2-3-3 MACCC) are winners of two straight, including Friday's shutout of Holmes.
