CANTON, Ohio - Former Northwest and TCU tight end Pro Wells will be playing for a title this weekend, as the Philadelphia Stars take on the Birmingham Stallions for the USFL Championship.
Wells and the Stars (6-4) will take on the Stallions in a nationally-televised showdown on Sunday, June 3. The game will be carried by FOX and will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
Despite seeing limited action this season, Wells has one touchdown to his credit, a 51-yard reception during a 46-24 victory against the Michigan Panthers on June 5.Â
Wells started nearly every game for the Rangers during the 2017 season, helping Northwest to an 8-3 record, a runner-up finish in the MACJC and the Graphic Edge Bowl in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He finished with 19 receptions for 304 yards and two touchdowns, including a season-best five catches for 85 yards in a home victory against Coahoma on October 5.
Following Northwest, Wells spent three seasons with TCU and earned second team All-Big XII honors following the 2019 season. In his final season with the Horned Frogs, he caught 13 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns, later signing an undrafted free agent deal with the Cincinnati Bengals for the 2021 season.
Wells is one of eight former Rangers playing professional football, a list that includes a handful of recent NFL Draft picks in Gardner Minshew II (Philadelphia Eagles), Damien Lewis (Seattle Seahawks) and Brandin Echols (New York Jets).
