GREENSBORO, N.C. - Another day brings another award for Northwest sophomore catcher
Ryan Lee.
Fresh off his second team All-American honor from the NJCAA earlier this week, Lee has also earned a second team All-American nod from Rawlings and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Lee was the only Northwest player chosen and just one of seven MACCC baseball student-athletes to earn first, second or third team honors. The Cleveland, Tenn. native now has five postseason accolades, including First Team All-MACCC, NJCAA All-Region 23, MACCC Player of the Year and NJCAA Division II Second Team All-American.
In his only season in Senatobia, Lee made an undeniable impact on the Rangers' program. The Union University transfer batted .402 on the season with 12 doubles, 16 home runs, 52 RBIs and a .902 slugging percentage, leading the team in each of those categories.
Lee concludes his Northwest tenure ranking fourth in single-season home runs, third in slugging percentage, tied for fourth in runs scored (58), sixth in walks (35) and tied for ninth in both RBIs (52) and total bases (119). Additionally, he fielded .975 with 245 putouts and six runners caught stealing.
Earlier this week, Lee committed to Little Rock, becoming the fifth Division I player from the Rangers' 2022 squad.
Caleb Hobson (UT Martin),
John Luke Marlin (UAB) and
Connor Spencer (Southeastern Louisiana) have already signed with their respective programs, while
Zach Willingham remains committed to South Alabama. Additionally, pitcher
Colton Presley is currently committed to Division II powerhouse Delta State.
Northwest ended the 2022 season at 26-24 overall, marking the 27th straight 20-win season, dating back to 1995. It was also the 15th straight winning season for the Rangers and the 13th straight postseason appearance. The 2022 campaign also wrapped up the 17th year as head coach for
Mark Carson, moving his all-time record to 479-315-2 (.603) and his conference record to 253-134 (.654).
