Northwest Football Alumni Trio Receive New Opportunities

SENATOBIA - Three former Northwest football athletes have received new chances to continue their respective playing careers.

Within the last week, defensive lineman Tariqious Tisdale, linebacker Brandon Pierre and defensive back DeMareo Marr have each been drafted or signed to new teams and leagues, continuing a long trend of former Rangers in professional football.

After spending the preseason with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent, Tisdale (2017) was selected in this week's XFL Draft by the Houston Roughnecks. A native of Lexington, Tenn., Tisdale was part of a robust defensive line for Northwest in his lone season with the Rangers, totaling 31 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, seven quarterback hurries and five sacks. Tisdale later moved on to Ole Miss, where he was twice named to the Reese's Senior Bowl preseason watch list and was selected to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl following his senior season.

Pierre (2017-18) was signed this week by the Arkansas Punishers, a team in the Amateur to Professional Developmental Football League (APDFL). A native of Horn Lake, Pierre finished his Northwest career with 72 total tackles, six quarterback hurries, three sacks and two forced fumbles, later joining the roster at Ole Miss.

"Someone with his talent and experience will be big in taking us to the next level on the field," Arkansas Punishers General Manager Chris Goodman said, in a press release on the team's website. "To compete with the other talent pools that these other states have, we need guys like this."

Marr, who has years of experience in various levels of professional football, will now suit up for the Albany Empire of the National Arena League. The Olive Branch native played for Northwest from 2006-07 and played for both Ole Miss and Midwestern State following his time with the Rangers. Marr has had stints in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts (2015), the Richmond Raiders of the Professional Indoor Football League (2015), the North Texas Freedom Fighters (TUFL; 2012-15) and the Dallas Marshals of the PIFL, beginning in 2017.
