CHARLOTTE - There wasn't much movement in the top tier of the NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer rankings this week.
Despite earning a 3-0 victory against East Central over the weekend in the Region 23 Quarterfinals, the Northwest women's soccer team stayed put at No. 6 in the latest and final rankings of the season. The lack of movement came as a result of no top teams losing, including Holmes and Jones, which both remain ranked ahead of the Lady Rangers.
Heartland (Ill.) remains in the No. 1 overall spot, followed by Phoenix College and Holmes at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Jones College did inch up to No. 4 as Pima (Ariz.) slid down to fifth.
Speaking of ranked teams, it will be the newly-christened No. 4 Lady Bobcats that await Northwest in the Region 23 Semifinals. As the men's soccer top seed, Jones College will host the semifinals and championship matches this weekend in Ellisville, with the Lady Rangers and Lady Bobcats set to battle at 5 P.M. The winner of that match advances to the Region 23 Championship against the winner of top-seeded Holmes and fourth-seeded Pearl River on Sunday, November 6.
Northwest and Jones College faced off earlier this season, with the Lady Bobcats taking a narrow 1-0 victory in Ellisville. So far, that remains the only loss of the season for the Lady Rangers.
