SENATOBIA - A late goal from
Peyton Coker in the 78th minute helped make things interesting for the Rangers over the final 10 minutes of regulation, but it wasn't enough to overcome a two-goal deficit, as Northwest fell 4-2 to MUW on Friday afternoon.
MUW struck first just three minutes into the match, thanks to a goal from Pedro Santana, and his teammate Paulao Carneiro responded a minute later with a goal of his own, stuffing Northwest into a 2-0 deficit early.
Sidney Black, Jr. helped the Rangers get into rhythm with his goal in the ninth minute from
Braylon Kettler, but the Owls made up for it just nine minutes later, as Asahel Salgado moved the MUW lead back to 3-1.
Jesus Villegas helped Northwest inch closer just before the break, as the Rangers fell behind 3-2 with five minutes remaining in the first half. Northwest then tied the match up in the 41st minute, as Villegas assisted Black, Jr. to make it a 3-3 draw.
Reggi Peach gave his Owls a go-ahead 4-3 goal just before the halftime break.Â
Salgado added another goal in the 58th minute to make it a 5-3 lead for the Owls, an advantage that held until Coker's goal in the 78th minute.
Both teams combined for 23 total fouls, with Northwest taking a 12-11 lead in that category. A total of six yellow cards were handed out, including one each on
Dereck Gomez,
Blaine Galbraith and
Seth Santiago.
Northwest outshot MUW 19-12 overall and 13-10 on-goal, as Paylor collected five saves in 90 minutes.
Facing an 0-3 deficit to start the season, the Rangers will return to action on Labor Day against No. 8 St. Charles Community College. Links for stats and the broadcast are available on nwccrangers.com.
