JACKSON - Northwest sophomore defensive back
Jarvis Townsend has been selected as this week's MACCC Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Townsend is the first Ranger to earn MACCC Player of the Week honors all season. The honor comes after Townsend posted five tackles, along with two crucial interceptions during a 26-20 victory for Northwest in last weekend's MACCC Semifinal matchup at Jones College.
One of Townsend's interceptions came in the second quarter, setting up Northwest with a short field at the Bobcats' 36-yard line. The other pick came in the end zone late in the fourth quarter, shutting down a red zone possession for Jones.
For the season, Townsend has 52 total tackles, three pass breakups and four interceptions for 69 yards. The Pearl, Miss. native is in the midst of his third and final season for the Rangers, totaling 135 career tackles and 14 career PBUs.
Ranked No. 4 in the latest NJCAA rankings, Northwest (8-2) will host seventh-ranked Hinds (8-2) for the MACCC Championship on Saturday, November 13 at Bobby Franklin Field. Kickoff between the Rangers and Eagles is set for 2 P.M., with pregame coverage beginning at 1:30 P.M. on Ranger TV (
