SOUTHAVEN - Former Northwest and University of Memphis standout midfielder Peyton McKnatt has signed to play with the Memphis Americans of the National Indoor Soccer League, the club announced last week.
McKnatt, a Memphis native, spent the 2016-17 seasons with Northwest and former men's coach Charlie Baldwin. Prior to his time in Senatobia, McKnatt had already built an impressive resume, earning the 2015 Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year for boys' soccer while at Houston High School. He also earned a roster spot on FC Dallas Under-18 Academy.
In his two seasons with Northwest, McKnatt scored 12 goals and added 10 assists in 18 career games. He had seven goals and one assist through four games his sophomore season before missing the final eight with an injury.
McKnatt then joined the University of Memphis, where he suited up in 19 matches as a junior, earning 15 starts. He finished third on the team with eight points, scoring three goals and dishing out two assists. In his final season with the Tigers, McKnatt started eight of the 14 matches he played, scoring his lone goal and only assist against Tulsa.
Founded in 2021, the NISL consists of three charter franchises - the Memphis Americans, Columbus Rapids and Fayetteville Fury. The league consists of men's and women's teams and will begin play on December 26 at the Landers Center in Southaven, where the Americans are scheduled to face the Rapids.
