JACKSON - For the third time this season, Northwest freshman midfielder
Jennifer Enriquez has garnered MACCC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Enriquez was voted for this week's honor after tallying one goal and four assists in a 2-0 week for the 12th-ranked Northwest Lady Rangers. The Las Cruces, N.M. native tallied three assists in a 4-0 victory at Southwest Tennessee last Tuesday and added an assist and the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime victory at Copiah-Lincoln last Friday.
It's just the latest award in what has been a stellar freshman campaign for the freshman midfielder, who is currently the team leader in assists (14) and ranks second on the team in scoring with eight goals. Enriquez is just one assist away from tying the Lady Rangers' single-season record of 15 assists, which is shared by Gena Gutierrez (2004) and Justine Richens (2006).Â
Enriquez' 14 assists has also earned her a slot in the career record books for Northwest, as she currently sits in third for all-time assists after surpassing Holly Newman's total of 12 last week (2012-13). The current all-time record is 19, set by Gutierrez from 2004-05.
Nationally, Enriquez is tied for second in assists among NJCAA Division II players, sitting just behind South Suburban's Amaris Gonzalez (24). Joining Enriquez in the tie is Nyah Bejarano (South Suburban) and Kendall Jones (Muskegon).
Northwest is 10-1 overall, marking only the fifth 10-win season in program history. The Lady Rangers will return to action on Friday, October 8 at Southwest Mississippi for a 1 P.M. home match.
