Damien Lewis Named to PFWA All-Rookie Team

SEATTLE - After a successful rookie season in 2020, former Northwest and current Seattle Seahawks offensive guard Damien Lewis was selected to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Lewis, who was drafted last spring in the third round of the NFL Draft, started every game for Seattle this season and quietly blossomed into one of the best rookie offensive linemen in the league. The Canton native also helped the Seahawks to a 12-4 overall record and the NFC West title, before being eliminated by the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL Wild Card round two weeks ago.

Lewis joined New England Patriots' offensive lineman Mike Onwenu as one of only two guards to earn PFWA All-Rookie recognition. He is also the first Seahawks player to make the PFWA All-Rookie Team since Michael Dickson in 2018 and the first offensive player since Ethan Pocic was selected as one of the guards in 2017.

Prior to his draft selection by the Seahawks, Lewis started every game as an offensive guard for LSU from 2018-19 and helped the Tigers to the College Football Playoff Championship last season. His efforts on the offensive line paved the way for Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow and tailback Clyde Edwards-Helaire, among others. Lewis, along with the rest of the LSU offensive line, collectively earned the 2019 Joe Moore Award for the most outstanding offensive line in college football.

An alumnus of Canton High School, Lewis lettered two seasons with Northwest from 2016-17 and quickly caught the attention of numerous Division I programs, yielding several SEC offers. He accomplished the rare feat of being selected as an NJCAA All-American during his two seasons in Senatobia and helped the Rangers to a combined 17-6 record, two bowl games and the 2017 MACJC North Division title.

Lewis is one of two former Rangers currently playing in the NFL, joining Jacksonville quarterback and 2019 NFL Draft pick Gardner Minshew.
