HILLSBORO, Ore. – Rising sophomore defensive back
Jayce Rogers is the latest Ranger to garner preseason recognition after being named to JCGridiron.com's Corner Watch List over the weekend.
A native of Valdosta, Ga., Rogers played a pivotal role on the Northwest defense last season, finishing second in both breakups (7) and passes defended (8). Along with 37 total tackles and 4.5 tackles-for-loss, Rogers also developed into a threat on special teams, returning 14 kicks for 383 yards. His most notable return came in the form of an 83-yard touchdown at Mississippi Delta in week three, the Rangers' only kickoff return touchdown of the season.
Rogers currently holds offers from Louisville and Houston, according to Rivals.com.
Rogers is now the seventh Ranger to be recognized in the online publication's position watch lists, joining fellow sophomores
Cam White,
Braden Smith,
Quay Mays,
Justin Jackson,
Robert Hentz II and redshirt sophomore
Tyren Irby.
As a team, the Rangers have been ranked in three national preseason polls, the highest being No. 7 from JCGridiron.com. Northwest has also been tapped eighth by College Football America and 12th nationally by Street & Smith's.
