SENATOBIA – Northwest Mississippi Community College has announced Friday, March 22nd as the date for its upcoming All-Star Baseball Reunion dinner and program.
Tickets are $20 apiece and must be reserved by March 8th. The event will be held at the Haraway Center on the Senatobia campus and will feature legendary Northwest baseball coaches Jim Miles and Donny Castle, along with several former players.
"We are looking forward to recognizing and reminiscing with a pair of legendary Northwest coaches," Northwest head baseball coach
Mark Carson said. "They both have made a big impact and meant a lot to many young men over the years."
Miles and Castle are among the all-time winningest coaches in Northwest baseball history, with Miles owning the career record of 556 victories over a 21-year span. A former Northwest baseball athlete from 1961-63, Miles took the reigns of the Ranger baseball program in 1976 after a seven-year Major League Baseball career.
Throughout his career, Miles guided Northwest to six state championships, seven north division titles, and two region crowns. He was named Coach of the Year six times and as athletic director, he helped establish the Northwest Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. He was inducted into the MACJC Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
After joining Miles as assistant coach in 1979, Castle immediately followed Miles as head coach in 1998 and led the Rangers until 2005, guiding Northwest to 271 victories, three division championships and a conference championship in 2001.
A spaghetti dinner at 6:30 p.m. will precede the main program, which is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
