JACKSON – A total of 41 Northwest Community College student-athletes have been named to the 2017-18 MACJC All-Academic Team, league commissioner Jim Southward announced Monday.
In addition, all seven programs were recognized as MACJC All-Academic Teams with a 2.5 GPA or better.
Northwest has now boasted 280 Academic All-MACJC selections over the past eight years, including a school-record 80 during the 2016-17 academic year.
To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25, have completed two full-time semesters of college work (24 hours) and competed in at least one season of a varsity sport. Student-athletes with a GPA between 3.25 and 3.79 are recognized with Academic honors, while student-athletes with a 3.8 GPA or higher are awarded with Distinguished honors.
The Ranger softball team led the way with 10 student-athletes on the MACJC All-Academic Team and baseball was a close second with eight selections.
Football, men's basketball, women's basketball and women's soccer had five selections each, while men's soccer followed with three.
Out of Northwest's 41 all-academic team selections, 11 were recognized with distinguished honors. Those student-athletes were Keshunn Abram, Kendall Akerson, Cayman Blount, Kayla Bradley, Sarah Johnson, Ally Judkins, Christian Pirani, Laken Stanek, Harley Smith, Mary Thornburg and Madison Thrasher.
