Head Men's Soccer Coach Charlie Baldwin Announces Retirement

SENATOBIA – After 13 seasons coaching men's and women's soccer at Northwest, including the last five as the men's head coach, Charlie Baldwin has announced his retirement.

"I've really enjoyed my time at Northwest," Baldwin said. "Unfortunately my health issues are making me step away from the game earlier than I would like. It's not fair to my team if I couldn't give 100 percent and this was the best decision for me. I wish them all the best next season."

Baldwin announced his retirement on Wednesday but will work through the month of June before a replacement is announced sometime in July.

Baldwin steps away after nearly 30 years as a soccer coach at the high school, college and club level.

Northwest clinched postseason berths in three of the past five seasons under Baldwin. The Rangers enjoyed a breakout season in 2015 by tying a school record with 12 wins and posting six shutouts to advance to the MACJC semifinals for the first time since 2009.

In his first season at the helm of the men's program in 2013, Baldwin led the Ranger men to a 7-4-2 overall mark and runner-up finish in the MACJC North Division at 4-3-1. The Rangers made their first postseason appearance since 2009, falling in the first round of the conference tournament to Jones County.

Baldwin spent the 2006-12 seasons as an assistant coach for both Northwest soccer programs. He shared recruiting and coaching responsibilities with former head coach Peter Jarjoura.

The Lady Rangers earned their first MACJC north division championship in 2006, posting a record of 14-5 and finishing the season as runners-up for the conference and region titles.

All told at Northwest, Baldwin was a part of 108 combined wins and six MACJC playoff appearances.

Baldwin served as head soccer coach at DeSoto Central prior to Northwest, leading the boys' soccer program in 2005-06 and the girls' squad in 2003-04. He would lead DeSoto Central to three Chickasaw Conference Championships. Baldwin was also the girls' head soccer coach at Southaven High School from 1998-2001.

Before coaching at the high school level, Baldwin coached the Germantown Fury for four seasons and the Memphis Futbol Club for nine and was also a training coach for the Mississippi Olympic Development Program.
