SENATOBIA – The Northwest Mississippi Community College family is shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of former director of athletics and intramural sports, Cameron Blount, on Tuesday.
Blount worked at Northwest from 2002-14, overseeing a 12-sport athletic department in addition to intramural sports, supervising the McLendon Center and as an adjunct instructor for health classes.
Before his employment at Northwest, Blount worked for eight years at the Baddour Center in Senatobia as a resident manager and director of Vocational Services from 1995 to 2002.
A Northwest alumnus, Blount played second base for the Rangers during the 1987-88 seasons and was an all-conference, all-district and all-region nod during his career. The Rangers were NJCAA Region 23 and north division champions his sophomore season and conference runners-up.
Blount finished his baseball career at Arkansas-Little Rock where he was selected All-TAAC in 1990 and earned a bachelor's degree in health education and a minor in sociology.
The Independence native is survived by his wife, Kenda, his three sons Kyle, Cayman and Kenzee, and his parents Lynda and Ellis Blount.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at Howard Coliseum on the Senatobia campus.
Please keep family and friends of Cameron in your prayers during this difficult time.
