SENATOBIA – Northwest head football coach
Benjy Parker and head women's soccer coach
Levi Nunnally were recognized at Thursday's monthly Board of Trustees meeting for winning MACJC Coach of the Year honors in their respective sports.
President Dr. Gary Lee Spears (far left) and board of trustees chairman Mike Moore (far left) presided over the meeting held in the Haraway Center.
Parker guided the Rangers to their third straight conference championship game, third consecutive bowl appearance and 8-3 overall record to be named the MACJC's North Division Coach of the Year.
Northwest finished 5-1 in the north, highlighted by a 61-38 thumping of No. 1 East Mississippi and 33-13 win over then-No. 3 Holmes, and claimed the school's 13th division championship back in October.
Parker, who's 17-6 in two seasons, led the Rangers to seven straight wins after a 27-24 setback at Itawamba in week two and helped Northwest climb as high as No. 4 in the NJCAA poll.
Nunnally led the Lady Rangers to a nine-game turnaround in 2017, finishing 11-6 overall with an MACJC semifinal playoff berth. Ten of Northwest's 11 wins came via shutout, second-most in single season school history.
The nine-game turnaround tied the largest in program history. Northwest went from five to 14 wins during the 2005 and 2006 seasons in which Peter Jarjoura was also named the MACJC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.
