Women's Soccer Team Collects Second Sportsmanship Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches recently announced their Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award recipients for college soccer programs competing in the 2017 fall season and Northwest Mississippi has been honored with the Silver Award.

The award was created to recognize teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, and is given to United Soccer Coaches members at four levels.

Teams honored at the platinum level went the entire season without a player or coach receiving a yellow or red card. Teams honored at the gold (1-10%), silver (11-30%) and bronze (31-50%) levels are based on a percentage calculated by the total number of cards received divided by the team's total number of games played.

Northwest's women's soccer team only had two yellow cards in 17 matches (11.7%) en route to a 11-6 season and semifinal playoff berth to earn the USCA's Silver Award.

It's the Lady Rangers' second team sportsmanship award this offseason, also awarded the MACJC's Tom Shepherd Sportsmanship Award back in November.
