RAYMOND –
Carson Tackett picked up 12 big saves, including stuffing a penalty kick in the 61st minute, and Northwest played 110 minutes of inspired soccer in a scoreless double overtime draw at Hinds Tuesday afternoon.
Northwest (2-7-2, 1-6-1) didn't get the result they ultimately hoped for, a win, but denied the Eagles (6-6-2, 4-2-2) a chance to host the first round of the playoffs next week.
Hinds dominated the match statistically speaking, outshooting the Rangers 27-6, but Northwest played perhaps its best defensive match of the year.
Northwest had its opportunities late in regulation from
Andy Blakney and
Parker Trawick, but couldn't capitalize. The duo combined for five of the Rangers' seven shots on the night.
Hinds outshot Northwest 5-0 in two overtime periods but once again Tackett came up huge denying the Eagles.
Northwest will close out the regular season at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21 against Andrew College.
