Lady Rangers Drop Close Match at Southwest, 2-1

Box Score SUMMIT – A Southwest goal in the 64th minute proved to be the difference on Saturday as Northwest fell 2-1 to the homestanding Lady Bears.

Southwest (1-1) took a 1-0 lead and provided the only score of the first half, thanks to a Nohemy Giraldo goal off a Taylor Laurent assist in the 12th minute.

Freshman Harlie Ray issued a response in the second half, scoring her first collegiate goal with a penalty kick in the 58th minute to tie the match at 1-1.

Just six minutes later, however, Southwest would retake the lead on a questionable offsides no-call as Laurent found Allin Franzante to give the Lady Bears the game-winning goal in the 64th minute.

Southwest outshot the Lady Rangers 18-8, including an 11-4 advantage on goal. Lauren Snyder had five of Northwest's eight shots.

Ivy Cook finished with nine saves on the day for Northwest. Jennifer Solis provided three for Southwest.

Northwest (1-1) will resume play next Saturday, Sept. 3 at Hinds. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in Raymond.
