Box Score WESSON – Freshman
Lauren Snyder's go-ahead goal in the 46th minute off a
Sierra Lasher assist proved to be the game-winner to lift Northwest to a 3-2 season-opening win at Copiah-Lincoln on Friday afternoon.
Mary Catherine Hutchens opened the scoring in the 10th minute, converting a penalty kick after a Co-Lin hand ball in the box for her first collegiate goal.
Co-Lin (0-2) tied the match at 1-1 in the 30th minute off a RayAnn Montano goal. Hutchens went down in the backfield with a knee injury and the Lady Wolves took advantage with a free path to the goal.
With the first half winding down,
Mackenzie Fennell netted her first collegiate goal in the 44th minute to give the Lady Rangers a 2-1 lead at the break.
Co-Lin once again found the equalizer, however, scoring just 36 seconds into the second half. Montano struck again, this time using a nice pass into the box from Raven Jones and firing it into the back of the net.
Snyder's goal exactly 17 seconds later after the game reset, from Lasher, marked the game-winner.
Northwest out-shot Co-Lin 19-6 on the afternoon, including a 14-5 advantage on goal.
Ivy Cook picked up her first win in net, picking up three saves and allowing both goals. Valeria Aglietti had 11 saves for the host Lady Wolves.
Northwest (1-0) will close out a weekend road trip tomorrow at Southwest. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Summit.
