SENATOBIA –
Stan Hill, who helped lead Oxford High School to three consecutive 5A state title games as its offensive coordinator, has been hired to run Northwest's offense under first-year head coach
Benjy Parker.
The announcement was made official by Northwest on Monday morning.
"Stan is going to be a great addition to our program," Parker said. "He's a good guy who's well respected in north Mississippi, has a great offensive mind and fits what we like to do."
Hill replaces Jack Wright, who resigned Feb. 17 to take the offensive line job at USM. Wright called plays for the Rangers for seven seasons, five as the offensive coordinator and the last two as the head coach. Six of those seven seasons Northwest's offense ranked in the top 25 in the nation (three in top 10).
An Oxford native with Tupelo roots, Hill's offensive scheme is a run-and-gun, pass-friendly approach.
Hill played collegiately at Marshall University from 2001-04, quarterbacking the Herd to a combined 36-14 record, 2002 MAC Championship and two GMAC bowl victories.
Hill threw for 4,711 career yards (10th in school history) and 38 touchdowns (8th, school history) and also rushed for six career touchdowns, including a
last-second 1-yard run in place of an injured Byron Leftwich to beat Ben Roethlisberger and Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 13, 2002.
After graduation from Marshall, Hill went on to play in the Arena Football League (AFL) with Memphis, Oklahoma City and New Orleans but was hampered by injuries and decided to turn his attention to coaching.
Hill arrived at Oxford High School in 2008 and his offense has been one of the premier in the state in the last five seasons in numerous categories. The Chargers advanced to three consecutive 5A state title games and have posted double digit wins in each of the past five seasons.
The last three quarterbacks that have played for Hill, Jack Abraham (Louisiana Tech), Parker Adamson (Southern Mississippi) and Guy Billups (Rice), have all signed with Division I programs as well as multiple receivers, tight ends and linemen under his offensive system.
Hill is married to the former Lauren Scott, an all-conference women's soccer player at Marshall, and the couple have three boys Wade (6), Tate (5) and Reed (2).
