Ranger Bats Come Alive in Sweep at Arkansas Baptist

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Freshmen Aaron Campbell and David Herrington combined to go 10-for-15 with two doubles and seven RBIs on the day as the Rangers swept a doubleheader at UALR's Gary Hogan Field over Arkansas Baptist by 11-9 and 9-4 finals.

The victories helped Northwest improve to 4-0 on the young season while ABC fell to 1-5.

Northwest scored 11 runs off 11 hits in game one of the twinbill but had to hold off four runs from the Buffs over the final two innings to get the win.

MSU commit Peyton Plumlee, making his first collegiate start on the mound, allowed three runs in the first before throwing up a pair of zeros the ensuing two.

The teams traded four leads over the first four innings before the Rangers pulled ahead for good in the fifth.

A five-run inning for the Rangers broke open what was a close 5-4 game, with Campbell, Ryan Skalnik, Herrington and Spencer Cayten all providing RBIs.

Hunter Lacefield tossed 2.2 innings of relief into the sixth for the win while Jonathan Lindsey closed it out in the seventh. Kolby Green allowed nine runs off nine hits in five innings to take the loss for ABC.

Seven different Rangers had a hit, with LeeMarcus Boyd, Campbell, Herrington and Cayten each finishing with two.

A 13-hit game two, highlighted by a pair of home runs from Boyd and Tanner Lloyd, lifted the Rangers to a 9-4 win.

J.R. Miller came on in relief of Dalton Minton to throw 3.2 innings of four-hit ball, allowing one hit, one run and three strikeouts for the win.

The Rangers got off to another quick start with two runs in the first off a single by Boyd and two in the second on a double from Campbell. Boyd's two-run bomb to left in the fourth made it 6-3 Northwest and they'd add a single run in the sixth and two more in the seventh off Lloyd's long ball.

Tomas Gonzales was 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Buffs. Sean Votaw and Landen Colson also had two hits each.

Northwest will return home Saturday, Feb. 20, playing host to Rend Lake for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
