JACKSON – Following another successful season that saw the Northwest men's soccer team advance to the MACJC Playoffs, three Ranger athletes have been awarded postseason honors.
Sophomores
Lance Crabtree and
Bryant Young were among those honored for a second consecutive year, with Crabtree taking home NJCAA All-Region 23 honors and Young receiving All-MACJC recognition. Freshman defender
Julian Raney earned all-conference recognition.
Switching positions from forward to defender to begin the season, Crabtree started in every contest and notched his lone goal of the season off a corner kick in the Rangers' 3-1 loss at Itawamba. He finishes his Northwest career with eight game-winners and 17 career goals, tying Fakhry Khulfan for sixth all-time in goals scored.
Young also started in all 14 contests in the midfield for the Rangers this season and netted three goals and four assists for 10 points. He ends his career third all-time in assists (11), finishing behind Kenny Porter 's 19 and Tommy Robison's 13.
Raney started in every contest this season and scored once in a pivotal division victory at Holmes, a win that helped the Rangers stay alive in the playoff chase.
Northwest was also the recipient of the Tom Shepherd Sportsmanship Award. Named for the longtime Hinds soccer coach, the award is presented to the team that assesses the least amount of cards in a given season. The Rangers have won the award five times in program history dating back to 2002 and most recently in 2013.
Northwest finished the season at 6-7-1 overall and fell at Jones County in the first round of the MACJC Playoffs.
