BOONEVILLE – For his efforts in a 31-24 win at Itawamba last Thursday night, Northwest sophomore running back
Justin Crawford has been selected the MACJC Offensive Player of the Week.
The weekly conference award is the fifth of his standout Northwest career and second this season.
Crawford, a product of Hardaway High School (Ga.), rushed for 269 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries (8.2 avg) and added a 13-yard reception. He went over the 200-yard mark for a fifth time of his career, and with his 7-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, became just the seventh Ranger to rush for 2,000 yards in a career.
The 2014 NJCAA Second Team All-American is chasing multiple career records this season, needing just 66 yards to become the school's all-time leading rusher and 267 all-purpose yards to break a 21-year old record held by former NFL first round draft choice John Avery (3,067 all-purpose).
This season, Crawford has rushed for a league-best 667 yards and four touchdowns and has hauled in nine receptions for 163 yards and two scores. He's averaging a whopping 207.5 all-purpose yards per game.
Northwest hosts 11th-ranked Hinds (3-1) this Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Bobby Franklin Field.
