Six Rangers Earn MACJC All-State Baseball Honors

JACKSON – Six Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers have been named to the 2015 MACJC All-State Baseball Team, including two first-team and four second-team selections, after a vote by the league's head coaches that was announced on Monday.

Sophomore second baseman Dalton Dulin and freshman right fielder Clay Casey were unanimous first-team honorees while second team members include sophomore third baseman Stuart Chick, freshman shortstop LeeMarcus Boyd and pitchers Colin Liles and Colt Smith.

Dulin and Casey were also named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team and will be eligible for NJCAA All-American honors to be announced in June. The duo started all 50 games for the Rangers this season and finished with two of the top four batting averages on the team, hitting .354 and .333, respectively.

A transfer from Ole Miss, Dulin led NJCAA Division II with 46 stolen bases this season on 53 attempts. His 46 stolen bases shattered former Ranger James Lear's season record of 35 set during the 2014 season. Dulin led all starters hitting .354 with a school-record tying 17 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 25 RBIs.

Casey, a Southaven native, finished his freshman campaign by leading the team in several categories, including total RBIs (39), home runs (12), and on-base percentage (.468). Casey also started all 50 games for the Rangers and was fourth on the team in batting average, hitting .333 with 10 doubles and two triples.

Liles, a Hernando native, finished his Ranger career with a strong sophomore season, striking out 50 batters against 11 walks. In 18 appearances and 55.1 innings of work, Liles went 3-3 with a 2.78 ERA, while also earning two saves.

Smith, another Ranger right-hander, also put on an impressive performance in his freshman season, finishing second on the team with 49 strikeouts this season. In 65.2 innings of work, he went 6-2 with a 2.88 ERA in 14 appearances. The three-time MACJC Pitcher of the Week also threw two complete games against Pearl River and Southwest Mississippi.

A native of Hernando, Chick capped off his Northwest career with a .363 career batting average, 69 hits and 23 RBIs. He also finished his career with a perfect stolen base percentage, going 22-for-22 in that category. This season, Chick was tied for second with Dulin in batting average, hitting .354 on 52 hits and 16 RBIs.

Boyd, an Independence product, wrapped up his freshman season by hitting .330 with eight doubles, four triples, three home runs and 29 RBIs in 49 games. His 62 hits this season was tied with Dulin for the most on the team. In the field, Boyd was responsible for 86 putouts and turned 26 double plays.

Northwest closed the year 33-17 overall and 19-9 in the MACJC. The Rangers finished as state runner-ups and earned their third Region 23 Tournament appearance in five seasons, marking their 24th tournament bid in program history. It marked a fourth 30-win season in the last five years under head coach Mark Carson.
