JACKSON – A pair of Northwest women's soccer athletes have been recognized for their efforts on the field by being named to the All-MACJC and NJCAA All-Region 23 teams.
Sophomore defender
Kayla Boutwell earned all-conference recognition, while fellow sophomore forward
Abigail Morales received all-region honors.
In two seasons for the Lady Rangers, Boutwell started all 36 games, including all 17 contests this season. She played a pivotal role in the Ranger defense posting 12 shutouts over a two-year span, with a school-record 11 of those results taking place during the 2014 season where the Lady Rangers finished 10-5-4 and advanced to the semifinals of the MACJC Tournament.
Morales finished her Northwest career seventh all-time in scoring with 19 goals, leading the team both seasons in goals scored, shots and shots-on-goal. She was selected as MACJC Player of the Week this season after netting two second half goals in a 2-1 win at Southwest to open the season. Morales was also an All-MACJC selection as a freshman and scored a team-leading 15 goals, adding four assists for a team-best 34 points.
The duo is expected to sign with four-year schools in the coming weeks.
