Box Score FULTON – The Northwest women's soccer team continues to add to its best start in school history, knocking off Itawamba 2-0 Friday afternoon to stay undefeated on the year.
Northwest improved to 5-0 overall (1-0 north) and has outscored its opponents 23-0 to start the season. Host Itawamba fell to 1-4 (0-1 north) in the north division-opener for both teams.
The Lady Rangers were held in check in the first half as both teams were held scoreless. Northwest's
Ashley Nelson and Itawamba's Abby Westmore did a nice job in net, collecting three saves apiece in the first 45 minutes.
Northwest broke the scoring hold in the second after
Holly Newman drew a foul outside the 18-yard box. Sophomore
Sidney Bond took the free kick for an unassisted goal at the 53:05-mark, her first goal of the year and what turned out to be her second career game-winner.
Abigail Morales capped the scoring in the 80th minute, connecting on her ninth goal of the year off a penalty kick after
Jameka Barr was taken down by the Itawamba defense.
Itawamba outshot Northwest 14-12 for the match, but the Lady Rangers capitalized in scoring range.
The Lady Rangers return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. against Hinds in Senatobia.
