St. Charles Hands Northwest First Loss, 1-0

SENATOBIA – The 19th-ranked Northwest women's soccer team fell 1-0 to 11th-ranked St. Charles on Saturday, surrendering a penalty kick minutes into the second half to hand the Lady Rangers their first loss of the season.

Northwest dropped to 7-1-2 overall while St. Charles improved to 9-2.

St. Charles controlled the game with a 35-4 shot advantage, including an 18-3 shot-on-goal differential. However, the Lady Rangers were able to keep the match all square in the first half.

The scoreless match was broken after a foul by Northwest in their defensive box, which allowed St. Charles to be awarded a penalty kick two minutes into the half. Morganne Dugger connected on the try for St. Charles. It marked just the third time in 10 matches that the Lady Rangers trailed.

Freshman Ashley Nelson was a key member of the defense after stopping a career-high 17 shots while St. Charles' Katie Martin made three saves.

Northwest will play Eastern Oklahoma State (1-7-1) Sunday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m.
