Oxford Hangs on for 1-0 Win

Box Score SENATOBIA – Two days after an emotional 3-1 win over East Central, Northwest was not as sound against first-year program Oxford College who rolled into Senatobia on Sunday afternoon and came away with a 1-0 victory.

Oxford (Ga.) improved to 4-2 overall while Northwest dropped to 4-4 in the first ever meeting.

Alvin Ma broke open a scoreless game in the 42nd minute when he managed to come away with the ball after a scrum in front of the net.

Four minutes earlier, Omar Garcia, seeing his first collegiate action, missed a wide open goal wide left which would've given the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

Josh Delgado had six of his seven saves in the first half or things could've been much worse for the home team. Oxford outshot Northwest 9-6 in the opening 45 minutes and consistently pressured around the box.

The second half was pretty balanced on both sides and neither team really threatened to score. Matthew Williams played the final 7:47 in net for Northwest in relief of Delgado.

Northwest was whistled for 13 fouls and a yellow card against 11 fouls for Oxford. The Eagles owned a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Offsides were 3-2 against the Rangers.

Northwest travels to Ridgeland (not Goodman) on Tues., Sept. 16 for a 4 p.m. matchup vs Holmes.

*Note that the Bulldogs play their home matches at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.
