PONTOTOC – There was a good bit of activity on the local recruiting front last week, as four Pontotoc high school athletes signed letters of intent to compete at the next level.
South Pontotoc forward Tristan Kitchens is headed to Northwest Mississippi Community College, where she will once again join her sister
Breanna Kitchens, a Lady Ranger defender and 2012 Northwest signee.
"I am proud of her and glad to see her go on to play at the next level," South Pontotoc head coach Horace Kitchens said. "Any coach is happy when that happens, and being her dad just makes it that much better."
Kitchens, a six-year varsity player who has also played some midfielder and defender, has averaged 21 goals a season over the course of her career. She helped lead the Lady Cougars to the 3A North Half Championship and a berth in the state title game a year ago.
"She's a versatile player," Kitchens said. "She is probably the best offensive player I've ever had but she can play anywhere. She has as strong of a left foot as she does her right foot, and that is pretty rare for high school soccer."
Tristan has been named the team's best offensive player for four years, and with four games to play in her senior season, has 34 goals and 22 assists. She's a four-time all-division selection and has helped the Lady Cougars to five division titles.
