Morgan Named to Capital One Academic All-District 1 Football First Team

ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore quarterback Kyle Morgan of Northwest Community College has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District 1 Football First Team as voted upon by more than 3,000 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Morgan is the sixth-ever selection in football for Northwest and the 14th overall selection in school history. Five football players earned academic all-district honors during the 2012 season.

Off the field, the Southaven native (DeSoto Central) has a 3.6 GPA in engineering and is involved with Phi Theta Kappa and Mu Alpha Theta. In high school, he was nominated for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award.

On the field, Morgan was 3-2 as a starter this season, throwing for 632 yards and two touchdowns and also running for a score. He orchestrated Northwest to the state playoffs for the 25th time in 33 seasons, also the first-ever playoff appearance of his football career (high school and college).

The Academic All-District 1 Team is made up of student-athletes from the NAIA, Canadian and 2-year ranks.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
