Five Rangers Score in 6-2 Win over Southwest

Box Score SENATOBIA – Northwest is out to its best start in school history after a 6-2 win over Southwest Tuesday afternoon that saw five different Rangers score goals. 

Northwest improved to 4-1-2 overall while Southwest fell to 1-7-1. 

Joel Villa scored his eighth goal of the year for the Bears in the 5th minute and Southwest led 1-0 early.

It wasn't 3 minutes later that Christian Zelaya took a deflection off the keeper and scored his second goal of the year to knot the match at 1-1.

The teams traded goals by Anthony Fernandez and Chris Gomez to make the score 2-2 at half.

Fernandez netted his second goal of the match just 4:01 into the second half for a 3-2 lead, and Northwest would follow with unanswered goals by Gnande Zleh (58th minute), Aaron Terrazas (82nd) and Peter Geraci (83rd) to pull away for the win.

Ryan Clyburn picked up his first collegiate point with an assist to Terrazas, and Geraci scored for the first time this season off the Rangers' first penalty kick of the year.

Northwest owned a 17-9 shot advantage and was whistled for a season-low six fouls.  

Taylor Thevenot had five saves in the win against seven for Southwest's Ryan Willcutt in defeat.

Northwest will return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 28 for a non-division match at Union University.
