Alex Jones scored twice in a 1:11 span to power the Lady Rangers past Itawamba 2-1 Tuesday afternoon.
Northwest improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the north while Itawamba fell to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the north. The 4-2 start is tied for the second-best start in school history.
Northwest had two scoring opportunities in the game's first half, but it was the visiting Lady Indians who got a goal from Annalee Jaggers in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 halftime lead.
The score stayed in favor of ICC the ensuing 53 minutes until Jones used a great assist from sophomore
Bree Francis at the 66:17-mark to knot the game at 1-1.
It was just 1:11 later when Jones found the game-winner, striking a brilliant shot over the head of ICC keeper Emily Munn to give the Lady Rangers the 2-1 come-from-behind win.
Northwest was out-shot 18-10 in the match, but it was an 11-save performance from freshman
Morgan Wilson that kept the Lady Rangers in the match. Wilson now has 31 saves in her first three collegiate starts.
Northwest returns to the pitch Friday, playing host to East Central at 2 p.m.
