Northwest Announces New Broadcast Team

SENATOBIA – For the first time in six years, there will be new voices calling Ranger football in 2013.

Northwest welcomes Graham Doty (pictured, play-by-play) and John Darnell (color analyst) to the Ranger football family. The duo replaces Ronnie Williams and Keith Patterson, who handled broadcasts from 2007-12, and will call all nine games of the 2013 season on WQLJ-Q 93.7 FM and on njcaatv.com/nwccrangers.

"We're excited to welcome Graham and John to the Northwest family," sports information director Kevin Maloney said. "It was time for a fresh start with a new team and I think we found the right guys. We also want to thank Ronnie and Keith for their years of service and countless hours promoting Ranger football."

Doty comes to Northwest following a stint with the Auburn Doubledays, a minor league baseball team of the New York-Penn League. A 2010 graduate of Ole Miss, Doty has had previous stints doing play-by-play for Ole Miss women's basketball and minor league baseball teams in Mobile, Ala., and Hickory, N.C. He is also no stranger to the MACJC, handling football play-by-play for Northeast (2010) and Hinds (2011).

"I can't tell you how excited I am to be a part of the Rangers broadcasts for the upcoming season," Doty said. "Growing up in Oxford, I always knew how good the Rangers' athletic programs were. They're not only one of the top programs in the state, but in the country as well."

Doty will also play a role in the weekly coach's show with Brad LaPlante and company that will air Monday nights at 7 p.m. on the school's NJCAATV page (link above).

A former three-year starting quarterback for Ole Miss, Darnell will provide color commentary. As a senior in 1989, Darnell passed for 2,326 yards and led the Rebels to an 8-4 record and Liberty Bowl win over Air Force. After playing one season with the Tampa Bay Storm of the AFL in 1991, Darnell spent time working at a quarterback camp in North Carolina and as an insurance salesman in Grenada. Most recently, Darnell served as the offensive coordinator at Northeast under head coach Ricky Smither.

Northwest opens the 2013 season on Thursday, Aug. 29 in Senatobia against Southwest Mississippi.
