Large Turnout for Evaluation & Skills Camp

SENATOBIA – Almost 60 high school student-athletes grades 9-12 showed up this morning for Northwest's Evaulation and Skills Football Camp under first-year head coach Brad LaPlante.

"The enthusiasm out here today was great," LaPlante said. "To have this many guys show up early on a Friday morning for a first year camp was great. It's good to see the excitement for our program. I think we should be able to double the attendance next summer."

The day started off with registration from 8-9 a.m. and immediately went into combine work. Beginning at 9 a.m., the camp combine started with bench press, full agility, a 3-L cone drill and 40-yard dash. The second half of the combine was position specific with individual players and the final part of the day was 1-one-1 competition between wide receivers and defensive backs.

"We want to get these kids in our camps early and get a jumpstart on recruiting," LaPlante said. "Not every area recruit was here, but I think the guys here had a good time and got a lot out of the coaching from our staff. I'd guess more than 30 high schools were represented out here."

The combine concluded with a group photo and then all participants and members of the coaching staff enjoyed Snappy Tomato, a local pizza and salad buffet.

Northwest will also host a Junior Day next Saturday, July 20, for high school juniors. The cost is just $25 and for more information, please click here.
