SENATOBIA – Head coach Peter Jarjoura and the Northwest women's soccer team inked another player to its 2011 signing class late Wednesday afternoon, signing center-midfielder
Alex Driver of Houston High School.
"I just hope to help take us as far as we can," Driver said. "I've always wanted to continue playing at the collegiate level, and after taking a year off, I realized that I missed playing soccer a lot. When it's all said and done, I hope to get recognized by a four-year school and move on."
After a one-year hiatus from soccer, Driver will be a freshman on the field but a sophomore in the classroom, transferring in from fellow MACJC member Southwest Community College.
A native of Cordova, Tenn., Driver helped lead the Mustangs to four-straight playoff appearances from 2006-09, including winning the 2009 Tennessee State Championship her senior season with an impressive 19-1-2 mark. She went on to receive numerous accolades at seasons' end, being named Best of the Preps, All-Star Midfielder of the Year, All-State and an East-West All-Star.
Driver is the 17th member of the Lady Rangers' 2011 roster and will be one of 13 freshmen on the squad.
Northwest will play a pair of exhibition games on Aug. 19 at Copiah-Lincoln and vs. Union University on Aug. 23 in Senatobia. The official season will kickoff at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 at Pearl River.
