JACKSON – Sophomore goalkeeper Kelli Brewer and sophomore midfielder Morgan Taylor of the Northwest Mississippi women's soccer team have been named to the 2011 MACJC All-State Team as voted upon by the league's head coaches on Tuesday.
Brewer started all 15 games for Northwest between the posts, totaling 112 saves (2nd state/33rd nationally), a 2.54 goals against average and a pair of shutouts. She posted five games with 10 or more saves, including a career-high 14 in a double overtime tie at Hinds.
The Vicksburg native was named the NJCAA Division I Goalkeeper of the Week on September 28, the lone keeper in the state to earn national recognition throughout the year. In addition to all-state honors, Brewer was also selected to the 2011 All-Region XXIII Team.
Taylor led the Lady Rangers in all statistical categories, scoring seven goals and adding four assists for a team-best 18 points. She owned a .194 shot percentage and .611 SOG percentage, knocking in game-winners against East Central and Holmes.
Northwest ended its season at 5-9-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the north division, missing the state playoffs by one game. Their four league wins are the most since 2006.
