JACKSON – Northwest sophomore offensive lineman Danterrius Young of Tunica has signed to play for head football coach Joseph Thrasher and Belhaven University for the 2013 season.
A Capital One Academic All-District selection as a sophomore, Young played in all 19 career games on the line and special teams for the Rangers and was a viable backup. Young started the final six games of the 2011 season at left guard after an injury to Deshondrick Hines.
Young helped pave the way for the nation's fifth-ranked total offense in his first year and the nation's third-best offense as a sophomore. Damian Baker became the school's first 1,000-yard rusher since 2004, a tribute to a great line.
Young is the first Ranger to sign with the Blazers since linebacker Ricky Wadlington in 2008 and just the third in school history.
Belhaven is a member of the NAIA and competes in the Mid-South Conference.
