Hodges' Hat-Trick Lifts Lady Rangers to Season-Opening Win

WESSON – Fueled by sophomore Allie Hodges' first career hat-trick, and an assist for good measure, Northwest opened its delayed 2012 season with a 6-0 victory at Copiah-Lincoln on a hot and muggy Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Alex Young added two goals and Andrea Colston capped the scoring in the 84th minute off a Sheana Witt assist. Alden Temple also chipped in a pair of assists and Bree Francis grabbed her first career point.

Scoreless into the 12th minute, Northwest lit up the scoreboard first at the 11:57-mark when Young used a double assisted ball from Temple and Hodges. The Lady Rangers would add goals in the 17th and 22nd minutes to take a 3-0 lead at intermission.

Hodges capped her hat-trick just seven minutes into the second half, scoring off a rebound shot from Temple, and the Lady Rangers added the final goals in the 80th and 84th minutes.

Goalkeeper Ashlee Rodgers didn't face a shot all day but got her first career shutout, while her counterpart Jenna Brown stopped 11 shots for Copiah-Lincoln between the posts.

Northwest out-shot Co-Lin 30-0 on the day, including 17 shots-on-goal.

The Lady Rangers will open north division play at Hinds (0-1) on Friday at 4 p.m.
