Terrazas, Bojang Pace Rangers to Season-Opening Victory

WESSON – Northwest kicked off the season in fine style on a scorching hot Tuesday afternoon, using a hat-trick from freshman Aaron Terrazas and two goals and two assists from fellow frosh Muhamed Bojang to take a 6-0 victory at Copiah-Lincoln.

Terrazas netted his trifecta just 20:16 into the match, opening the game's scoring in the 3rd minute and adding goals in the 15th and 21st minutes. His second, and the team's third, goal of the match was a thing of beauty as he one-touched a Dylan Castoria pass into the back of the net from the toughest of angles.

Bojang and sophomore Abelardo Barron would each add goals in the opening 45 minutes as the Rangers took a comfortable, 5-0 lead into the break.

Northwest managed the clock the final half and added its final goal in the 62nd minute when Bojang headed in a Castoria delivery for his second goal.

Freshmen Ronnie Ware and Christian Zelaya also chipped in assists in their Ranger debuts.

Northwest out-shot Co-Lin 21-7 on the day (13-4 shots-on-goal), led by six shots from Castoria. The Rangers also earned 10 corner kicks to the Wolves' zero, a tribute to the constant offensive attack.

Taylor Thevenot stopped four shots to earn his first career win, while Wesley Varner and Treshawn Hathorn split time between the posts for the host Wolves.

Northwest will open north division play at Hinds (1-1) on Friday at 6 p.m.
