Hinton Scores Twice, Northwest Buries Copiah-Lincoln 5-0

SENATOBIA – Sophomore Amanda Hinton found the back of the net twice and three other Lady Rangers scored their first career goals as Northwest picked up a 5-0 win over Copiah-Lincoln Tuesday afternoon.

Northwest evened its season record to 4-4 with the win and swept the season series between the two teams by a combined 11-0 margin. Copiah-Lincoln remained winless on the year in nine tries.

Northwest was on the attack all afternoon, outshooting Co-Lin 34-0 (20-0 shots-on-goal) and drawing an unofficial school record 19 corner kicks in the contest –16 of those in the second half.

Freshman Yanira Cura netted her first career goal in the 16th minute to break a scoreless tie and freshman Kristin Young added her first in the 29th minute off a nice Karly Massengill assist to make it 2-0.

Hinton capped the first half scoring in the 43rd minute when she drilled in a penalty kick, giving Northwest a 3-0 lead at the break and Hinton her first goal of the season.

Kari Anna Stephens stretched the lead to 4-0 in the 60th minute for her first collegiate goal, kicking the ball in after a scrum in front of the net. Hinton would then cap the scoring for Northwest with her second goal of the match in the 66th minute off a corner kick from Bree Francis.

Despite not facing a shot, Ashlee Rogers picked up her and the Lady Rangers' fourth shutout win of the season. On the opposite side, Jenna Brown was busy with 15 saves for the Lady Wolves.

Northwest will travel to Southwest (3-5) on Saturday, Sept. 29 for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
