SENATOBIA – In a match that was dominated by Northwest on paper, the Rangers and visiting Itawamba Indians battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw on Wednesday afternoon in north division play.
Still searching for its first division win, Northwest remained unbeaten at home and moved to 0-2-1 in the north and to 3-2-1 overall. Itawamba moved to 2-3-3 overall and 1-1-2 in league play.
Northwest outshot Itawamba 20-6 on the afternoon (13-3 shots-on-goal) but left multiple goal scoring opportunities out on the field. A lot of that credit goes to Indian goalkeeper Cullen Grantham who picked up seven of his 12 saves in the second half and overtime.
Scoreless late into the second half, ICC broke the tie with a beautifully executed cross and header from Madison Francis to Daniel Cox in the 80th minute.
The Rangers, however, found the equalizer in the 84th minute when Gnande Zleh found Muhamed Bojang for his team-leading fourth goal of the year to knot the match at 1-1.
The teams then played consecutive 10-minute overtime periods and neither could find the golden goal as the game ended in a draw.
In a physical game late, the teams combined for four yellow cards (ICC 3, Northwest 1) and 22 total fouls.
Northwest will try again for its first league win on Friday at 4 p.m. when they travel to East Central.
