SENATOBIA – Northwest capped off a busy week of soccer with a 1-0 win Sunday afternoon over Southwest, using freshman Bree Francis' first career goal in the Lady Rangers' home-opener.
Northwest improved to 2-1 overall with the victory, while Southwest fell to 1-2.
The Lady Rangers opened the week with a 6-0 win at Copiah-Lincoln and followed that with a 4-1 loss at Hinds. Sophomore Allie Hodges netted her first career hat-trick in Tuesday's win over the Lady Wolves, while freshman Emily Williams had Northwest's lone goal on Friday in Raymond.
Sunday afternoon's win was in dominating fashion, as the Lady Rangers outshot Southwest 19-5 (12-3 shots-on-goal) and drew nine corner kicks on the attacking end.
Francis broke a scoreless tie in the 38th minute for the game's only goal and Ashlee Rogers posted her second shutout of the year by stopping three shots in net.
Erin Sumrall had a stellar afternoon for the Lady Bears, stopping 10 of her 11 shots in the second half, and allowing just one goal. Jessica St. Pierre had three of Southwest's five shots on the day.
Northwest will welcome Meridian to Senatobia on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
