Lady Rangers Grab First Win of 2011, Top Copiah-Lincoln 4-1

SENATOBIA – The Northwest women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2011 campaign on Tuesday afternoon, scoring two late first half goals and cruising to a 4-1 win over Copiah-Lincoln.

Northwest moved to 1-3 on the young season, while Copiah-Lincoln fell to 2-2.

Scoreless through the first 34 minutes, the Lady Rangers found the back of the net at the 34:16 mark when sophomore Sarah Bishop took a pass from freshman Samantha Beard and sent it past Co-Lin goalkeeper Shakendria Williams for the 1-0 lead. Northwest increased that lead to 2-0 just 2:35 later when Beard scored her first collegiate goal after a scramble in front of the net.

Morgan Taylor's goal in the 62nd minute pushed the Lady Ranger lead out to 3-0 before Co-Lin finally got on the board in the 79th minute when Kaitlynne Pace scored off a nice Emily Zumbro assist.

Northwest would cap the scoring in the 86th minute, using Kelsey LeBlanc's first goal to take the 4-1 win.

Northwest outshot Co-Lin 14-7 on the afternoon, with seven different Lady Rangers finding a shot on goal.

Sophomore Kelli Brewer picked up six saves in net to earn her first win of the year, while Williams had five saves for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Rangers will close out a three-game homestand on Friday, welcoming Holmes to Senatobia for a 2 p.m. kickoff to open north division play. Live stats: http://www.sidearmstats.com/northwestms/wsoc/
