DECATUR, ALA. - Behind a top-three finish from AnaLeigh Little, the Northwest Mississippi Community College women's golf team placed fifth out of eight teams at the Calhoun Women's Spring Classic at Burningtree Country Club.
The Rangers shot 118-over as a team which was the team's best score of the season so far.
Two NWCC team members placed within the top-10, with Little picking up one of her best finishes of the season, closing the tournament at second on the leaderboard. On the first day, Little excelled on the front nine, shooting only two-over with seven pars. Although in the back nine she only shot on par on hole 14. Little did birdie hole 12, bringing her total on the day to eight-over.
The second round saw Little improve her score to five-over with four birdies and only shooting over par seven times. Little's day two score allowed her to vault up five places to finish second while shooting 13-over.
Bella McNeil was the other Ranger that placed within the top-10. On the first day, McNeil shot 12-over with a birdie on hole two and scoring a par six times. Although she did not birdie on the second day of competition, McNeil shot on-par nine times, with six of those pars coming in the front nine. After shooting 10-over on day two, McNeil shot a combined 22-over and moved up one place into 10th place.
Behind McNeil, Madison Baker played relatively consistently over the two days, shooting 18-over on day one and 20-over on day two. Throughout the two days of competition, Baker shot on-par seven times with three pars coming on the first day and four on the second. Baker ended the two days of competition with a combined score of 38-over and in 26th place.
The next two Northwest team members on the leaderboard were Sarah Niblett and individual competitor Zaeja Davis, finishing in 32nd with equal 45-over scores. On the first day, Niblett shot on-par on three straight holes in the front nine while Zaeja Davis shot on par six times with three coming in both the front and back nine.
On the second day, Niblett birdied on hole seven and hit on-par six times, and Davis hit on-par seven times, providing the opportunity for Davis to move up six spots on the leaderboard.
Closing out the Rangers in the field of competition was sophomoreAddison Forbes. Forbes placed 46th while shooting 76-over. Forbes was able to shoot on-par four times on day one.
The women will travel to Corinth to take part in the NEMCC Women's Spring Invitational on April 7 and April 8. The tournament will be played at Shiloh Ridge Golf and Fitness.
