PENSACOLA, FLA. - Behind a top-10 finish from AnaLeigh Little, the Northwest Mississippi Community College women's golf team placed sixth out of 11 teams at the Jefferson State Women's Spring Invitational at Marcus Pointe Golf Club.
NWCC shot 122-over as a team, a 20 stroke improvement from their previous score at the Snead State Women's Spring Invitational the last week of February.
Two Rangers placed within the top-20. Although Little did not have a birdie on day one, she was able to avoid any problem holes, picking up twelve pars and shooting seven-over to keep herself in the mix for top of the leaderboard.
On day two, Little was able to birdie holes five and sixteen, but she also had four more bogies than her opening round, bringing her day two score to nine-over and her combined score 16-over. It was good for another top ten finish for the freshman, placing her ninth on the leaderboard.
Bella McNeil came in 16th after two days of competition. On the first day, McNeil shot 10-over with shots on par on half of the holes. This score put her within the top-15 going into the second day.
While she did pick up a birdie on the 13th hole, McNeil's overall score closed at a 14-over on the second day of competition, dropping by four strokes from the opening day with a 24-over two day total.
Madison Baker had one of the best improvements from day one to day two, jumping up 13 spots on the leaderboard. This jump was the largest of any Ranger and tied for the largest jump between all the competitors.
Hitting at least a bogey on all but two holes for a score of 27-over, the first day of competition was challenging for Baker. However, Baker was able to overcome her first day struggles on the second day. Shooting on-par on seven holes for a score of 12-over and being the second best performing NWCC team member on the second day allowed Baker to spring up the leaderboard into 41st place.
The last two Northwest team members that were a part of the scoring team were sophomores Addison Forbes and Zaeja Davis.
After shooting 23-over on both days of competition for a total score of 46-over, Forbes finished 50th. The highlight for Forbes came on the second day of competition when she birdied the first hole.
With a birdie on each day, Davis shot 28-over on the first day of competition and 20-over on the second. Her performance over the course of two days placed her in 52nd place with a combined score of 48-over. Although her score did not count towards the team's score on day one, her eight stroke improvement on day two placed her within the top four Rangers on the day and allowed her score to be counted.
Competing as an individual, freshman Sarah Niblett placed 47th shooting 22-over on day one and 21-over on day two. Like several other Rangers, Niblett had a better day two of competition.
The women will travel to Decatur, Ala. to take part in the Calhoun Women's Spring Classic on March 23 and March 24. The tournament will be played at Burningtree Golf Club.
