Only three make it through to the short go for NWCC rodeo in rescheduled Murray State Rodeo

Williams takes home top spot in short go for tie down

MURRAY, KY – It was a tough return to competition for the Rangers as the Northwest Mississippi Community College rodeo team only had two members of either the men's and women's points teams make the short go and saw the men finish seventh and the women fifth in the 50th Annual Racer Roundup hosted by Murray State University on March 5th through the 7th.

The Ranger men were led by Tate Williams who picked up 95 points in calf roping, just barely making it back to the short go with a 12.6 on his first run and he improved by over a second on his Saturday run, tying for first in the go with Tanner Brown of the University of West Alabama.

That would get him 55 points, and he added 40 more in the average where he would place third. It gave Williams 100 points overall in the region standings and puts him 140 points out of third place and a spot at the College National Finals Rodeo.

Only two other Rangers picked up any points at all, with Cole McCorkle teaming up with Tucker Douglas to finish fourth in the long go with a 7.5 second run to pick up 30 points.

The duo would fail to catch on their short go steer and wouldn't pick up any points in the average, finishing one spot out of sixth.

The points did make a difference though. Douglas moved up to sixth in the Ozark Region standings for headers with 160 points and is just 60 points out of third and McCorkle is in the same position as a heeler.

The Northwest men dropped one spot in the region standing, being leapfrogged by Southern Arkansas University, but are still in fifth and just over 900 points out of second with five rodeos' remaining on the year. The lack of points for the women drops them to eighth in the Ozark standings, but only 550 points out of second.

Northwest is back in action on the 12th though the 14th of March when they travel south for the East Mississippi Community College rodeo.
